Author: Almighty Hat
Fandom: Transformers Mystic Tales AU
Characters: Shockwave, Alchemist Prime
Word Count: 288
Rating: G
Pairing(s): Shockwave/Blurr
Warnings: Standard Spellbound... uh, this is partway through the suicide attempt. Shockwave is having a near-death experience.
Author's Notes: This one is... very short, and less about death and the right to choose your own exit, but that's a main theme of Spellbound in general. This-- this is just-- Keferon had to split this update in half, and English is a terrible beast of a language and I thought, I thought to myself, "Well, hang on, I saw a Very Specific Moment, should I write the thing?"
So I wrote the thing.
Keferon, you're doing amazing, look, look, I'm still noticing details. Your details are amazing. However hard the words are, the words you choose are so good.
Here, have some of mine, all good feels for once (although they hit poor Shockwave like a brick).
Also there's dialogue in here that's Keferon's, not mine. This is one where I don't get to put words in people's mouths.
Summary: Shockwave has a near-death experience.
It comes with a lot of other experiences, too.
Based on the most-recent update of Keferon's excellent Spellbound AU.
I saw a Prime who was a minibot. I saw a Prime who was--
"I know what you thought," Alchemist Prime said, but he hadn't, he didn't know, because he went on, "There's no demons in the afterlife. And Amalgamus is not a demon."
Shockwave had, gamely, or possibly dumbly, asked, "He isn't?" But that was as much cover as curiosity.
Because he hadn't been thinking That Prime is a demon.
No.
He saw Micronus Prime, delicate and dainty, with familiar tippets streaming from his narrow shoulders, smiling beatifically up at Amalgamus Prime, huge and hulking, four-armed, shoulders thick with spines, a hexagon for a face balanced on a thick, flexible neck, and Shockwave--
Shockwave, covered in soot and ash, a dark smudge on the bright white of whatever plane he found himself in, Shockwave, with two eyes and a full complement of fingers and a face, a mouth again, Shockwave looked at Amalgamus Prime and thought:
That Prime looks like me.
That thought was followed swiftly by, Those Primes must look like us.
He didn't dwell on it-- couldn't dwell on it, Alchemist Prime had something far more important to tell him, but--
But that, that would be something he knew he'd carry with him, whatever happened after this.
All the Primes were vibrantly different, tall and short, broad and narrow, beast and mech, every single physical commonality between them broken by at least one Prime... and among them was a Prime who looked a little like Blurr, and a Prime who looked a lot like Shockwave had gotten used to looking.
Like us, Blurr. One like you and one like me. There were Primes like us once, and I wish I could show them to you.
END NOTES: Okay so, I'm gonna scream a bit about that update in general.
The blankie.
Those tender hand closeups, Blurr cleaning Shockwave's old, old damage, and you just know it's so gentle. That he's being so careful.
And then the color shift to Shockwave's dream/vision/near-death experience.
The way the limited color pallettes in these comics work is just so. It is so. Keferon, it's gorgeous, it looks overlit and flash-dead. Bright and blinding. And the white touch-me-nots. I see those. I see them.
I see how the most color is on Shockwave, and how much of it is the smudged purple ash and soot of what he was just a little while ago-- and the blue of his optics, in that second panel, and the red red red of his memory.
That outline of Vector Prime, where I went 'is that-- that's not my boy Prima-- no, that's my old man Vector! I know him! ... A DOZEN NEW CHARACTERS are we getting the goddamn FIRSTFORGED--' And then we did. We got the goddamn Firstforged. Primes of all shapes and sizes, and one more time, okay, one more time I got to see someone divinity-adjacent go "I know what you--" and say to myself, "... But do you though?" Maybe Jazz does want Prowl to hear him, maybe he does want that kind of voice, but I don't think it's the kind of thing he'd ask Rung for, having heard his conversation with Prowl. Maybe Shockwave looked at Amalgamus and did think my dude, that right there is a demon, but from the look on his face it wasn't because Ew Hideous or Why Is That Here In This Bright Clean Afterlife but-- recognition. He's like me. And he's here in this bright, beautiful place, being smiled at by beautiful people. Bickering, bantering. A Prime.
Who so strongly resembles G1 Shockwave, Who I do love to bits, what a fantastic reference.
Also oh my god I am not qualified to write Megatronus/Solus but I want to. And how Megatronus is still brightly lit but dark. And he's never The Fallen, not here, so the couple is fire-and-forge.
COLOR LIGHT PARALLELS ART REPRESENTATION ENTIRE LOVE STORY HAPPENING SOMEWHERE IN THE PAST do you have one Prime at a time or no no I can wait I can wait to see what Prima says with the next update but.
Here, Keferon, take this, your words are amazing, I love them. That you can do what you do in not only not your first language but in English as a second language-- English is a terrible beast, even to native speakers. It's the only language I've got. You're doing great. I won't say 'don't worry about it,' because I know what it's like to stare at a sentence and go, "... I don't like you and I don't know why," but. You've got what you need to go straight for the readerships' hearts.
